i have been using canon dslr for more than 1.5 years. i have both entry-level and pro-level ones.
if you ask for suggestion regarding an entry level dslr, i think you will be better off buying a 550d. like a lot of people said, it has one of the best image resolution-18 megapixel and is capable of recording hd video both in 1080p and 720p format. what's more is that you can even choose the frames per second based on your need for the video.
last, but not the least, the kit lens for 550d is more than enough for you if you are not looking forward to shoot telephoto pics.
